On November 14, the New Zealand House of Representatives held a first reading vote on a controversial bill, which was opposed by Maori Party MPs. Initiated by Hana-Roshiti Maipi-Clark, the youngest MP in the New Zealand House of Representatives, several Maori Party MPs performed the Maori Haka war dance on the spot to express strong protest. The meeting had to be temporarily adjourned and resumed about 30 minutes later, and the bill was passed at the first reading. MP Maipi-Clark, who initiated the war dance, was suspended.
