#Seoul Faces Heaviest November Snowfall Since 1907#
On Wednesday, November 27, Seoul experienced its heaviest snowfall in November since 1907, with snow accumulation reaching at least 16 centimeters, breaking the previous record of 12.4 centimeters set in 1972.
The heavy snow caused widespread disruption across South Korea. Local media reported that transportation was severely affected, with flight cancellations, road closures, and at least one fatality in a traffic accident near Seoul, likely linked to the weather conditions.
Yoon Ki-han, head of Seoul’s meteorological department, told AFP that the snowstorm was caused by strong westerly winds and a significant temperature difference between the sea surface and the cold air.
Local businessman Bae Ju-han commented, “Just last week, the autumn in November still felt somewhat warm, but in just one week, it feels like we’ve entered a winter wonderland. The contrast is very striking. So today, I went outside to enjoy the first snowfall of this winter.”
